TRAGEDY!!! Lagos Assembly Chief Matron found dead in her office


Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly and staff are still in shock over the discovery of the dead body of the Chief Matron of the Staff Clinic of the House, Mrs. Caroline Oriola, who allegedly died inside her clinic over the weekend.
The Chief Matron it was gathered had gone to the office on Saturday, August 22, for an undisclosed reason, but her dead body was only discovered in the morning hours of Monday, 24 August, by a cleaner, who had gone to clean the clinic.

Sources in the Assembly revealed that the woman had gone to her office on the fateful day and was said to have put on the air conditioner in the office and locked the door from behind.
It was gathered that the security men that were on duty were oblivious of the incident, even though she signed in before she picked the keys to the clinic, being a weekend.
A visit to the office revealed a sad atmosphere as the whole place was calm and some of the staff of the Assembly were seen discussing her death in groups.

“It is indeed sad news; nobody expected that she would die, when she did. We were told that she was in the clinic to pick some drugs, only for her dead body to be found on the floor by a cleaner,” said a source.
Another source in the Assembly disclosed that the late matron’s husband, who had waited endlessly for her to return home late Saturday, had gone to check her in the Assembly but that he could not find her car in the staff car park, adding that he was unaware that she parked her car at the lawmakers’ car park in the Assembly.
A source who contacted the Deputy Chief Matron, Mrs. Shebiotimo, said she was not aware of any form of disease that she may be suffering from, that could have led to her sudden death.
Also contacted to know why the security people could not find the woman till her body was found about 48 hours after she signed and considering that the light in the office and the air conditioner were on, the Chief Security Officer of the House, Kushiro Abdulkabir, said he was not around and so could not comment.
The body of the deceased was later conveyed to the morgue with the Assembly ambulance accompanied by some staff of the House led by the Clerk, Segun Abiru. 

Lagos businessman arraigned for allegedly diverting N8.6m goods

A businessman, Chidi Ozurumba, who allegedly diverted his business partner’s truck loaded with goods worth N8.6 million, was on Monday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Ozurumba, whose address was not given, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
Prosecutor C. N. Odii told the court that the accused committed the offences on Sept. 13, 2014 at Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos.
He said the accused with others still at large diverted a truck with registration no. BDG 708 XE conveying some goods to Maiduguri, Borno, worth N8.6 million.

According to him, the goods stolen are 750 cartons of floor tiles, 250 cartons of wall tiles, 222 pieces of single doors, 200 cartons of a brand of floor tiles and 50 pieces of double doors, property of Lakebato Ventures Ltd.
He said the offences contravened Sections 285 (5) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded innocence of the offences.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 (5) provides seven years imprisonment, while Section 409 prescribes a two-year jail term.
Counsel to the accused, Mrs. Helen Ibeji, urged the court to admit the accused to bail on liberal terms.
In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr. P. A. Adekumanya, admitted him to a bail of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He said the sureties must be employed in the Lagos State Civil Service.
The case was adjourned to Oct. 19 for mention. (NAN)
