Ex-Majority Leader escapes death in the hands of Fulani herdsmen

The former Majority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Aneke Ifemeni, has raised alarm over the activities of Fulani herdsmen, saying he last week escaped death by the whiskers from their hands.

Narrating his experience in the hands of suspected Fulani herdsmen, Hon. Ifemeni told journalists that the incident happened between Iselegu and Obikwele communities on his way to his home town, Onicha Ukwuani, Ndokwa West local government area of Delta State.

According to him, “On Thursday afternoon, between Iselegu and Obikwele, Fulani robbers took over the road and were shooting at my vehicle in a bid to stop me, there was no space of time for me to stop or reverse so, I had to take the risk and drove on.

“My domestic assistant was in the vehicle with me, they fired more than twenty times as it was sporadic but I kept approaching them directly, ready for anything while swerving my vehicle, other vehicles behind me had the opportunity to make a u-turn when they saw what was happening to me and I was about to hit their ring leader when he jumped for his dear life while we escaped.

“My friends following me who turned back thought I was dead but to the glory of God, we escaped unhurt.”

Hon. Ifemeni called on government to take urgent actions to tackle the activities of the Fulani herdsmen, saying “Our people are suffering, these people are armed robbers and kidnappers, government should flush them from our bush even at the expense of our consuming their beef, which is one way to make our roads and bushes safe.

“Cattle rearing is a business venture like farming and I have not seen where a farmer enters the bush or other people’s farmlands with impunity while owners of the farm watch helplessly.”
