Member, Board of Trustees (BoT) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Sam Nkire has assured fellow Igbos that President Muhammadu Buhari would at the end of the day give Igbos what is due to them in his government.
Speaking in Abuja during the Sallah break, Chief Nkire said President Buhari could not afford to neglect the third largest ethnic group in Nigeria and sleep with his political eyes closed. The former National Chairman of the Progressive Peoples Alliance PPA, added that the President knew Nigeria well enough not to play that kind of exclusion politics. He accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of orchestrating the attacks on President Buhari over excluding Igbos in his appointments but said PDP’s campaign of calumny would fail.
Chief Nkire further reassured the people of South-East that APC chieftains such as Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, Gov Rochas Okorocha, Dr Chris Ngige and others were capable of ensuring that Igbos were adequately represented in President Buhari’s government.
On the issue of which zone should produce the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), he said it was only equitable for the South-East to produce “the last big thing left”.
Asked to reconsider his ambition to become the Secretary of the Board of Trustees of APC, since he was also from the South-East, Chief Nkire said: “The two won’t even be enough to make up for our losses so far”.
He described the rumour that Igbos were getting a raw deal because they did not give President Buhari enough votes as ununfounded but assured that the South-East geo-political zone would be 90 per cent APC by 2019, going by the current rate of defections to APC.
