The official reason for the visit was to commission a road being built by the governor Okezie Ikpeazu. But
we have been informed by an insider thatThe official reason for the visit was to commission a road being built by the governor Okezie Ikpeazu. But
Obasanjo was sent to Aba by President Muhammadu Buhari to explore means to defuse the pro-Biafra protests that have taken the southeast region by storm.
Since the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) by security agents in October 2015, many young people have demonstrated in the big cities of the southeast, South-South and beyond demanding Kanu’s release and the secession of the region from Nigeria.
Several of the peaceful protesters have been killed by the police and tensions are mounting, with concerns being raised over the impact of Kanu’s arrest and pro-Biafran sentiment on Nigerian security.
So the president dispatched Obasanjo as a secret emissary to Aba, which is seen as the epicentre of the pro-Biafran movement, to negotiate with key players on how to resolve the crisis.

Obasanjo met several people that he was advised could help calm the situation down. These include Eze Azu Egege, the traditional ruler of the Ogbor community in Aba North. We also gathered that Obasanjo is billed to go to all the flash point of this peaceful protest to induced the so called elders with big amount of money that comes from their land.
Our source speculated that financial inducements may be part of the negotiations, the Directorate of State (DOS) of Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) call on all the genuine Biafrans to disregard any attempt by these shameless men parading themselves as Eze this, and Eze that, from hijacking this movement for their selfish interest.
This movement have gone far to turn back because of one Eze or Chief who’s character is questionable, many have died, scores arrested and the leader of this humble cause is still in the enemies camp. The only person capable to stand for any negotiation is no other than mazi Nnamdi Kanu himself.
