GOV. OSHIOMOLE AND FUNDS

A couple of days ago, Nigerians saw Gov. Adams Oshiomole of Edo State level allegations of financial misappropriation on the immediate past Minister of Finance and the co-ordinating Minister of Economy, Dr. Mrs Okonjo Iweala. What we did not know however is that Gov. Adams has plans of seeking for $75million loan from World Bank.

It is quite interesting to know that Edo State just like every other State in the Federation did get and has continued to get all her allocations and other funds that did accrue to her. Why is Gov. Adams still owing salaries? Are the funds that accrued to him not enough to carry out developmental projects in Edo State to the extent that he wants to borrow?

Be that as it may, Edo State youths have led a protest at the National Assembly premises against the move of their Governor saying that their is no justification for him to borrow. Two serving Senators from Edo State have also corroborated the stand of the youths while saying also that Gov. Adams has a short time to stay in office thereby making his move questionable.

The loan request which has been referred to the yet-to-be constituted House Committee on internal and external debts was brought to Senate by President Mohammadu Buhari on the assertion that he is satisfied with what is on ground at Edo State? Would Mr. President have made that statement or would he have sent that report with the request that Senate should investigate and act on it? Did Mr. President consult with those representing Edo at the Federal level OR with ONLY Gov. Adams before coming up with that statement?

The Senate committee on internal and external debts when constituted should look into this properly and act on it in the best interest of Edo people.
